Rotarians Ron Smith and Ron Cassel presented a $1,000 check to the First Robotics team, represented by Justin Quan, Co-Team Captain, and LGHS instructor Rodrigo Coppelli. Justin is a junior this year at Los Gatos High and will be one of the leaders of the robotics team as it enters competition. Rodrigo Coppelli is a mathematics and engineering instructor on campus. Aaron Payne, not pictured, is the Manufacturing and Wood Technology instruc- tor in the Industrial Technology department at LGHS.

Los Gatos Rotary’s philanthropic grant will be used by the First Robotics team in upcoming competitions. Any interested party may go to a computer browser and type in “First Robotics – Steamworks” and view a video regarding last year’s competition.

A note of interest: Very few Industrial Technology programs remain in our state and nation, but Los Gatos is blessed with a continuing program. Aaron Payne, Los Gatos High School graduate of 1995, is now the instructor that oversees Manufacturing, Wood Technology and the First Robotics program. He is doing an outstanding job in his teaching position. Considerable new equipment is coming to the Manufacturing lab courtesy of federal funds, and this is a real praise to Mr. Payne and the program. He is well liked and sincerely appreciated for his service by all who know him. From his program will come skilled craftsmen and engineers for the future.
