The purpose of Sundace's presention is to educate and raise awareness on the trauma and critical stress our first responders endure on a daily basis

Sundance's Biography

Sundance Scardino was born in Cleveland, Ohio. Raised in Northern California. Joined the United States Air Force after high school. Served during Desert Storm. Deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Southern Watch. Worked with NASA on multiple launches as part of the Space Shuttle recovery team. Completed his first active duty enlistment and became a traditional guardsman in the California Air National Guard 129th Rescue Wing out of Moffett Federal Airfield. He successfully navigated the year long hiring process for Los Angeles County Firefighter Department and served the citizens of Los Angeles for 8 years. Eventually returning to the Silicon Valley Sundance and became a firefighter/paramedic for The City of San Jose. After his family situation changed he came back to the California Air Guard after a 13 year break. Taking a military leave of absence from the fire department Sundance attended the Pararescue apprenticeship course. 3 months after graduation Sundance deployed to Afghanistan conducting combat rescue and recovery missions as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Sundance sustained a career ending back injury while parachuting into the Pacific Ocean over 950 miles off shore during a civilian rescue mission. Now Sundance is medically retired from the military after serving for over 14 years. Sundance returned to the fire department and is on modified duty in a special assignment with the fire department serving as the Behavioral Health Program’s Coordinator.
