The meeting was brought to order by Mike Norcia at 12.30 pm at Shir Hadash .
 
It was a Townhall Style meeting with no lunch.

District Conference.. Sky is the Limit is on April 22, 23 and 24th. Great opportunity to learn what Rotarians do.

Our Special Guest for the Afternoon was Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Sammy L Davis.


 
 
Our very own Ron Cassel gave him a warm welcome and thanked Dixie Davis for the logistics and arranging this meeting all the way from Indiana. Ron Cassel was a teacher to him and were still in touch.
A special mention for friends from high school Gary Duran and Larry Mersek who were also in the audience.
We saw a medal of honor brief movie clip and the meeting proceeded with a question answer session.

  • His meeting with his wife Dixie Davis and their life together.
  • About the movie Forest Gump and Tom Hanks.
  • Speaking engagement, speaking to troops all over the world.
  • Passionate about talking to school kids instilling values and courage.
  • His recovery from his war wounds at the present age of 75 .
  • His advice to young people “Don’t Quit Keep trying. You don’t lose until you quit trying.”
  • His return to Vietnam after 55 years, the emotions and feelings.
  • Welcome parade episode in Berkeley after the war.
  • His grandfather and great-grandfather were also in military.
  • His mother’s gift of Harmonica and how he learnt to play Shenandoah
  • The special treat, he played Shenandoah for the audience.
 
The meeting ended with lovely spread of refreshments and drinks .
