Presentation:

Our speaker today was Bill Sanderson, Superintendent of LGSUHSD. Mr. Sanderson has been superintendent since the 22-23 school year. Prior to coming here, he was the assistant superintendent of high schools in San Francisco. He began his talk on the State of the District with a story about the Masai who don’t ask, how are you, but how are the children? If the children are not well, the society cannot be well.

Academics continue to be strong in the district. In fact, the district ranked #1 in the state in mathematics among all high school districts. Beyond academics, the district has started a wellness center at each school which is seeing increased use by students each year. The district has been recognized for their food service, providing freshly cooked meals rather than prepackaged food. Responding to the widespread fentanyl problem, both staff and students have been trained in the use of Narcan.

The district has challenges among them competing with higher paying districts to attract and retain the best staff and declining enrollment.

Meeting adjourned at 1:30. Happy New Year! No meeting next week.
