Announcements:
  • Mike Frangadakis is being honored as Veteran of the Year for Santa Clara County by the Veteran’s Commission of Santa Clara County. Presentation of the award is Wednesday, February 19 at 3:00 70 W. Hedding St.
  • Dave Karwowski said the tour of Carbon, Inc was a success. Marty suggested we may want to do more things like this in the future. Let him know if you think you’d be interested.
  • We saw an inspiring video about Great Race 2020. Link here if you missed it. Thank you Michelle Nelson (and Steve) for your work on this.
  • Rotary speech contest continues February 26 at the Morning Rotary meeting 7:15. One of these four students will be representing Area 8, come show your support.
  • LG Rotary Charities Foundation applications are due February 28. Forms are available on the website.
  • Area 8 is hosting a Rise Against Hunger work party February 29 from 10:00-noon at Monte Vista HS. There is no cost to participate. Several of our members have already signed up, please join them.
  • Dr. Sylvia Whitlock is speaking at the Cupertino Rotary Club on March 11. They meet from 12- 1:30. Thanks to Dr. Whitlock, women could join Rotary. This should be an interesting presentation.
  • There will be a LG Rotary Service Day at the Homeless Farm Project in Santa Cruz March 21, 10:00-4:00. Members Chris Potter and Heidi Owen volunteered here earlier and said it was a great experience. Contact Chris if you’re interested.
  • District 5170 is hosting a Community Service Project Faire on March 14, 9-noon. The event will be held at Dryco Fremont. Come see what other clubs in our district are doing for local projects and meet your fellow Rotarians.
  • The Rotaract Anniversary party scheduled for March 14 has been cancelled.
 
Next week’s speaker is CA Game Warden Josh Zulliger. He will speak to us about the state of abalone as well as his work patrolling the “Emerald Triangle”.
 
Today’s speaker was our own Dr. Sandeep Gopisetty. Dr. Gopisetty is Director of Enterprise AI, Systems & Solutions at IBM. He spoke about IBM research and the future of computing.
