The meeting was called to order by President Andrew H.
 
Gary A. led us in the flag salute.
 
Michelle asked for visiting Rotarians and guests. Larry R. from the Campbell B.C. was our visiting Rotarian. Additional guests were Jeff B. and Heidi O.
 
Dan S. provided inspiration by a touching reflection on the meaning of Memorial Day and the sacrifices that others have made. Remember those who have missed life’s events big and small.
 
Twenty for Twenty:
  • Andrew talked about the great Memorial Day event at Memorial Park yesterday. It is important to remember the cost of freedom.
  • Mike F. said he was on the front page of the SJ Mercury for the first time. He was part of the Memorial Day remembrance ceremony at Oak Hill Park. He also reminded us that the dedication of the Veteran’s Memorial in Los Gatos will be June 15. HR McMaster will be the keynote speaker. It is going to be a great event and he hopes everyone from the club can make it. Mike really appreciates the support the club has given to the memorial.
  • Leroy N. gave 20 for 20 in honor of Mike F. and all he has done for veterans in our community.
 
Announcements:
  • Andrew announced the family BBQ which will be held June 14 from 5-8 at Oak Meadow Park. Cost is $10 for adults $5 for children 6-12, children under 5 are free. Sign up to bring appetizers, side dish or dessert. Hope everyone can come.
  • Andrew thanked Judy for all her service to the club, especially the scholarships.
  • Suzanne announced Andrew’s Roast and Toast which will be held June 25 at Villa Ragusa there will be NO day meeting on the 25th. Invite your family and friends this is always a fun event.
  • New member Chris P. was introduced. Welcome Chris.
  • Gay announced First Thursday which will be held June 6 from 5-7 at Flights.
  • There will not be a First Thursday in July because it would fall on the 4th. Instead we will go to the wine/beer tasting at Zanattos on Naglee on the second Wednesday July 10. The cost is $25 for 12 tastings and lots of food.
  • Dan announced the LGHS band concert tonight (5/28) and Picnic and Pops at RJ Fisher tomorrow (5/29) at 5:00. Our club is getting the Friends of Fisher Music Program supporter of the year award, this is the second year in the row for this award. This will be a fun evening with lots of music and food trucks.
 
Andrew shared a quote from Gen. MacArthur in which he said he would give up all honors from war for peace.
 
 
We had Red Badge speeches from two new members. First was David H. who told us he was introduced to our club by Andrew. David is from Tennessee and shared some great pictures and stories about his grandparents’ dairy farm and the wonderful summers he spent there. David is a researcher at Netflix, thank him the next time Netflix suggests a show or movie for you.
 
 
Randy C. was our second speaker. Randy’s dad, Ray, was a longtime member of our club and a Paul Harris winner. His mom was in Inner Wheel. Randy said watching his dad all those years really inspired him to give back to community. Randy has lived in Los Gatos since 1962 he went to LGHS where he was a member of Interact. Randy has been in the cellular industry for 40 years. He manages cell sites all around the country which has him traveling a lot.
 
We enjoyed learning more about both of them, thank you David and Randy.
 
Our final speaker was Marlon S. who has been a member since 1978. He told us a couple of stories about Ray C. that illustrated what a special person he was. Eric E. said he did so much for ELC and Ron reminded us that Ray wrote “I Believe” and recommended everyone go back and read it again. Randy said he has it on his wall.
