Meeting Notes from Nov 13, 2018

In the absence of our President Andrew, the meeting was called to order by vice-president Judy R.

Art R. led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of inspiration led by Ron S.

We had one visitor -- Dave H., a guest of President Andrew and a prospective new member.

Past-President Suzanne B. showed us a video from our Rebuild Together Day last month. It was inspiring and light hearted and showed what volunteer service can do.

Guest Sara provided an overview Bay Area Ronald McDonald House Charities. Sara emphasized how helpful our contribution last year was.

Fantastic Fundraiser! Rotary is hosting opening of Fantastic Beasts 2 premier at the #Losgatostheatre this Friday 6pm.  Sara from Ronald McDonald House at Stanford joined Mike Norcia who is organizer of this fundraiser. To get your tickets, click here!

We were reminded that we can donate to the Red Cross to assist those who have lost their homes by the recent fires.  Also an email was sent recently district wide regarding how to donate to Paradise Rotary.

There was also a report on our assistance to St. Luke's for the homeless brunch this morning. The food was much appreciated and many Rotarians helped prepare and serve the food.

Our guest speaker was Gary Craig Hobbs "Interdisciplinary Innovation at San José State University”

How can technology and creativity combine to solve some of our planet’s problems? Gary Craig Hobbs believes digital technology may offer solutions. Hobbs challenges his students to explore these issues through the creation of digital media art, computer games and mobile apps. Films, animations, artworks and personal experiences influence designs. The results are as unique as their creators. Hobbs, who grew up near Cape Canaveral, Florida, during the Apollo Mission, vividly recalls viewing initial images of the universe and how it prompted his own dreams of flight. Today, he partners with students to create a world with a brighter future.

To close the meeting, Judy asked our veterans to stand --  and they received a warm round of applause.
