Inspiration

Jean-Marc Blanchard: his inspiration was titled, Comic Sidekick, Frontline Hero. He talked about Russell Johnson who played the professor on Gilligan’s Island. He was a bombardier in WWII and flew over 44 missions in the Pacific. On his last flight he was shot down over the Philippines and landed in the water. He had to tread water for 12 hours with injuries to his ankles and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. We never know when we encounter people what their history is.
Red Badge Presentations
Tammy Janosik and Chigiy Edson were welcomed as new Red Badge members to our Club.
Nominating Committee
John Walker announced the nominating committee for the 2026-2027 Rotary Year:
Patti van der Burg, chair; Jeff Blum, Greg Gentile, Mike Norcia, and Elaine Ware.
Service Events
Paul showed pictures of two service events: The Fisher Bike Safety Day and the Sleep in Heavenly Peace bed making assembly line. 44 beds were assembled. Thank you to Anjana and her husband for a very successful Happy Hour last week.
Service Opportunities
Helping during the holidays:
  • Jewish Family Services: once again buying gifts for families.
  • Bill Wilson Center: making meals for families over the holidays.
  • Holiday Benefit Concert: Pasquale’s Italian Christmas Concert at the Hammer Theater on Sunday, Dec. 14, in San Jose. Partial proceeds from this concert will go to our Guatemala Project.
Social Events
First Tuesday Holiday Happy Hour on Dec. 2 will be at the Pencer House.
Los Gatos Christmas/Holiday Parade will be on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 11am (meet at 10) — rain or shine!
President’s Brunch will be held on Sunday, Dec. 7 at Cinnabar Hills. Meghan will be sending a link to sign up coming next week.
Spotlight
The spotlight was on Mike Norcia. He joined Rotary in 2003 to join his dad, who had joined in 2001, for lunch. He started to get to know people and, because he was a runner, he became Chair of the Great Race and remained Chair for 15 years. He is also very active with ELC and the El Salvatore Grande School project and many other service activities. He loves Rotary because we have great people with servant hearts and he considers joining our Club as one of the best things he has ever done.
Ghana Washroom Project
The project is completed! Paul showed pictures and slides of his and Debbie’s trip to Ghana for the ribbon cutting on the washroom project. They now have girls’ bathrooms, boys’ bathrooms, and a teacher bathroom. The students and teachers from the school are so grateful for our support and they gave the club a Citation plaque as a thank you for our support.
30 for 30
Ramon Ware gave $50 to the club in honor of Elaine being in Guatemala and for the Air Force win over the Spartans.
Jean-Marc donated because he completed his 14th book: The Effects of Chinese Investment in SE Asia.
Patti made a reminder announcement that we still need some sponsors for the CrabFest.
Guest Speaker
Emily C.Z. Roben MD, MS, who spoke on behavior change in individuals and groups.
Adjournment
Meeting was adjourned at 1:30pm.
Lunch Team having fun!
