The meeting was called to order at 12:30. Due to power and wi-fi outages from high winds, attendance was lower than normal at 46.
 
Inspiration was given by Dan Snyder with thoughts on overcoming obstacles to reach your dreams, and how failure can move you in a new direction.
 
Guests were potential new members Jeff Blum (an attorney), Ken Toren (of Red Cross Silicon Valley and KCAT), Karen Anderson (fairly new to town and ready to dig in), Rebecca Alvarez of West Valley College and experienced at events!), and Terri Trotter (who “is ready to do whatever Tina says”).
 
Barbara Fishman (a court arbitrator and Marty’s wife) and Ryan Basham (Spectrum ophthalmologist and sponsored by Andrew Howard) have earned their red badges. Welcome Barbara and Ryan!
 
The member spotlight this week is on Dr. Marty Fishman, our past illustrious President. See Amy or Rachelle to be featured.
 
The We Care Committee wants to remind you to let Lydia Norcia know if a member is in need of special care due to illness or other challenge.
 
President Andrew noted January is Rotary Vocational Service month.
 
Our annual Philanthropy Champion Forms are due 2/28.
 
Our speech contest via Zoom is coming to our 2/9 meeting.
 
The Wine Fest is 1/30 and is sold out. You can take part in the online bidding, even if you aren’t attending the Zoom event.
 
Get warm coats to Tina by this Friday am, to take part in the Interact drive. Any size is ok.
St Luke’s volunteers this week once again provided food to the local homeless. Randy Cobb and Kathy decorated with inauguration themed eggs. Well done.

  • Dan Snyder pledged $1000 to the scholarship fund (wow) in honor of his daughter Elizabeth who joined the high school Rotary Interact Club and didn’t even tell him. He found out when she was cleaning the creek with Rotarians. He is proud of her sense of service, and should be.
  • Andrew Howard pledged $20 for being late, and to honor Elizabeth’s creek cleanup.
  • Randy Cobb remembered a meaningful visit to the MLK Memorial and church.
  • Judy Rodriguez gave in honor of Dan’s daughter.
  • Greg Butterfield gave $50 to scholarship fund in honor of Dan’s being a good parent.
  • Hal Rosen gave in celebration of his vaccination signup.
  • John Colwell gave $100 ($50 for MLK Memorial trip memories, and $50 to honor new member Ryan Basham’s dad who is a dear friend)
  • Wes gave $40 ($20 to honor Dr. Basham who he traveled to Guatemala with for Seeing Again Guatemala project, and $20 to encourage you to get vaccinated)
 

Today’s program was to cover WineFest details

  • Committee chair Suzanne noted this is our big club fundraiser and we are now sold out. Ticket holders can look forward to tasting, a music performance, Raise the Paddle, and door prizes. Details to pick up WineKits and bidding info is coming via email.
  • Tina showed the box of gourmet treats that will accompany the wine tasting.
  • Patti thanked all the sponsors, Rotarians, and others that have donated to the event. She highlighted the nearly 100 amazing auction items, and noted you can participate in online bidding
